The greatest banjo player in the world
For a second there I was Bill Monroe, or Earl Flatt, or Lester Scruggs (actually that's Earl Scruggs or Lester Flatt, but then you knew that) or one of those other famous banjo players that nobody has heard of. For a second, it felt like I wasn't faking it, like I wasn't in a Matchbox 20 video. I was the greatest banjo player in the world and with no one listening no one could disagree. Then the second passed. Even if I never get back to it again, even if I am unable to ascend to the dizzying heights of banjo superiority, to climb that metaphorical mountain and raise my banjo at the pinnacle, I'll know, and now you'll know, that for one second I was the greatest.
And now I'm past my prime. Curses.
